Tomorrow Christ Is Coming

Author: Fred Kaan, 1929-2009 Hymnal: Community of Christ Sings #406 (2013) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Topics: Peace on Earth Lyrics: 1 Tomorrow Christ is coming as yesterday he came; a child is born this moment– we do not know its name. The world is full of darkness, again there is no room; the symbols of existence are stable, cross, and tomb. 2 Tomorrow will be Christmas, the feast of love divine, but for the nameless millions the star will never shine. Still is the census taken with people on the move; new infants born in stables are crying out for love. 3 There will be no tomorrows for many a baby born. Good Friday falls on Christmas when life is sown as corn. But Jesus Christ is risen and comes again in bread to still our deepest hunger and raise us from the dead. 4 Our God becomes incarnate in every human birth. Created in God's image, we must make peace on earth. God will fulfill Love's purpose and this shall be the sign: we shall find Christ among us as woman, child, or man. Scripture: Matthew 25:31-36 Languages: English Tune Title: CRAIGMILLAR

Comfort, Comfort Now My People

Author: Johannes G. Olearius, 1611-1684; Catherine Winkworth, 1827-1878 Hymnal: Community of Christ Sings #407 (2013) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Topics: Peace on Earth Lyrics: 1 "Comfort, comfort now my people; tell of peace!" so says our God. Comfort those who sit in darkness mourning under sorrow's load. To God's people now proclaim that God's pardon waits for them! Tell them that their war is over; God will reign in peace forever! 2 For the herald’s voice is crying in the desert far and near, calling us to true repentance since the kingdom now is here. Oh, that warning cry obey! Now prepare for God a way! Let the valleys rise to meet him, and the hills bow down to greet him! 3 Straight shall be what long was crooked, and the rougher places plain! Let your hearts be true and humble, as befits his holy reign! For the glory of the Lord now on earth is shed abroad, and all flesh shall see the token that God's word is never broken. Scripture: Isaiah 40:1-9 Languages: English Tune Title: GENEVAN 42

Father Eternal, Ruler of Creation

Author: Laurence Housman Hymnal: The Hymnbook #486 (1955) Meter: 11.10.11.10.10 Topics: Peace on Earth; Kingdom of God on Earth, The World Friendship and Peace Lyrics: 1 Father eternal, Ruler of creation, Spirit of life, which moved ere form was made; Through the thick darkness covering every nation, Light to man's blindness, O be Thou our aid: Thy Kingdom come, O Lord, Thy will be done. 2 Races and peoples, lo! we stand divided, And sharing not our griefs, no joy can share; By wars and tumults Love is mocked, derided, His conquering cross no kingdom wills to bear: Thy Kingdom come, O Lord, Thy will be done. 3 Envious of heart, blind-eyed, with tongues confounded, Nation by nation still goes unforgiven; In wrath and fear, by jealousies surrounded, Building proud towers which shall not reach to heaven: Thy Kingdom come, O Lord, Thy will be done. 4 How shall we love Thee, holy, hidden Being, If we love not the world which Thou hast made? O give us brother love for better seeing Thy Word made flesh, and in a manger laid: Thy Kingdom come, O Lord, Thy will be done. Amen. Scripture: Matthew 6:10 Tune Title: LANGHAM
