Here, O My Lord, I See You Face to Face

Author: Horatius Bonar Meter: 10.10.10.10 Appears in 322 hymnals Topics: Service Music Following Lord's Supper Lyrics: 1 Here, O my Lord, I see you face to face, here would I touch and handle things unseen, here grasp with firmer hand eternal grace, and all my weariness upon you lean. 2 Here I will feed upon the bread of God, here drink with you the royal wine of heaven; here I will lay aside each earthly load, here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven. 3 This is the hour of banquet and of song; this is the heavenly table for me spread; here let me feast, and feasting, still prolong the fellowship of living wine and bread. 4 Too soon we rise, the symbols disappear. The feast, though not the love, is past and gone: the bread and wine remove, but you are here, nearer than ever, still my shield and sun. 5 Feast after feast thus comes and passes by, yet, passing, points to that glad feast above, giving sweet foretaste of the festal joy, the Lamb’s great bridal feast of bliss and love. Jesus Christ, my sure defence

Meter: 7.8.7.8.7.7 Appears in 58 hymnals Topics: Following Christ Lyrics: 1 Jesus Christ, my sure defence And my Saviour, ever liveth; Knowing this, my confidence Rests upon the hope it giveth, Though the night of death be fraught Still with many an anxious thought. 2 Jesus, my Redeemer, lives! I, too, unto life shall waken; He will have me where He is: Should my courage then be shaken? Should I fear? Or can the Head Rise and leave its members dead? 3 Nay, too closely am I bound Unto Him by hope forever; Faith's strong hand the Rock hath found, Grasped it, and will leave it never: Not the ban of death can part From its Lord the trusting heart. 4 I shall see God with these eyes, Shall behold my blessed Savior; I, the selfsame, shall arise, In my flesh see God forever; Then shall wholly disappear Frailties that oppress me here. 5 What now sickens, mourns, and sighs, Christ with Him to glory bringeth; Earthly is the seed and dies, Heavenly from the grave it springeth; Natural is the death we die, Spiritual, our life on high. 6 Saviour, draw away our heart From all pleasures base and hollow; Let us there with Thee have part, Here on earth Thy footsteps follow; Fix our hearts beyond the skies, Whither we ourselves would rise. Used With Tune: JESUS CHRIST, MY SURE DEFENCE

Jesus, for Thee and Thy blessed Communion

Author: P. J. Hygom; C. Doving Appears in 5 hymnals Topics: The Christian Life Following Christ Lyrics: 1 Jesus, for Thee and Thy blessed communion Longing possesses my heart and my mind; Break down all barriers that hinder our union, Draw me to Thee, O Redeemer most kind! Show me right plainly my need that is crying, Show Thou the depth of my sins unto me! That unto sin I may daily be dying And in the Spirit live only to Thee. 2 Quicken my soul thro' Thy blood and Thy merit, That I the work of Thy Spirit may prove! Captive to Thee take my soul and my spirit, Lead me and draw me, lo, fainting I rove! Fain I from self and all idols would sever, When but Thyself in my soul mightest dwell With that Thy peace which endureth forever-- Peace that all sorrows and conflicts doth quell. 3 Oh, who could fully make this his endeavor: Self to surrender with heart and with soul! Oh, that my all were my Jesus for ever, I am, alas, far away from my goal! Jesus, who gav'st me an ear that is heeding, Reach me Thy hand and Thy succor me give, That I here after that life may be leading Which Thy true Christians in holiness live. Used With Tune: JESUS, DINE SÖDE FORENING Text Sources: German, anon., 1712

Jesus, my all, to heaven is gone

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 787 hymnals Topics: Following Christ Lyrics: 1 Jesus, my all, to heaven is gone, He whom I plac'd my hopes upon; His track I see--and I'll pursue The narrow way, till him I view. 2 The way the holy Prophets went, The road that leads from banishment; The King's highway of holiness I'll go; for all his paths are peace. 3 This is the way I long have sought, And mourn'd because I found it not; My grief, my burthen, long has been, Because I could not cease from sin. 4 The more I strove against its power, I sinn'd and stumbled but the more; Till late I heard my Saviour say, "Come hither, soul, for I'm the way." 5 Lo glad I come, and thou, dear Lamb, Shalt take me to thee, as I am; Nothing but sin I thee can give, Nothing but love do I receive. 6 I'll tell to all poor sinners round, What a dear Saviour I have found; I'll point to thy redeeming blood, And say, "Behold the way to God."
