1882 - 1967 Author of "O men of God, go forth to win" in The Hymnal Tiplady, Thomas. Was Director of the Lambeth Mission in South London, which was maintained under the auspices of the Methodist Church. --The Hymn Society, DNAH Archives ============================== Thomas Tiplady is the Director of the Lambeth Mission in South London which is maintained under the auspices of the Methodist Church. There for thirty-seven years he has ministered among the poor of that section of the great British metropolis. It has been a ministry with many unique features among them a moving picture program at the "Ideal" which has become an institution in itself. Out of this work in London have come several volumes of hymns written originially for use in the services at the Mission. Several of these hymns are to be found in American hymnbooks. He is a member of the Hymn Society of America; and has had close relationship with the Society and its members. --Eleven Ecumenical Hymns, 1954. Used by permission.

John Coleman Adams

1849 - 1922 Person Name: John C. Adams Author of "We Praise Thee, God, For Harvests Earned" in The Cyber Hymnal Adams, John Coleman. (Malden, Massachusetts, October 25, 1849--June 22, 1922, Hartford, Connecticut). Universalist. Son of John Greenleaf Adams. He graduated from Tufts College, A.B., 1870; B.D., 1872; S.T.D., 1888. He held pastorates at Newton, Mass., 1872-1880; Lynn, Mass., 1880-1884; Chicago, Illinois, 1884-1890; Brooklyn, New York, 1890-1901; and Hartford, Conn., 1901-1922. He wrote a few hymns for special occasions, one of which, written in 1911 for a church anniversary, begins "We praise Thee, God, for harvests earned." It was included in The New Hymn and Tune Book, 1914, and in Hymns of the Spirit, 1937. --Henry Wilder Foote, DNAH Archives

1864 - 1942 Author of "Pass On the Torch" in Hymns for a Pilgrim People Born: December 30, 1864, Manchester, New Hampshire. Died: April 23, 1942, Manchester, New Hampshire. Cross attended Phillips Andover Academy, Amherst College and the Andover Theological Seminary. He pastored in Cliftondale, Massachusetts (1892-96); Springfield, Massachusetts (1896-1901); at the Old South Church, Boston, Massachusetts (1901-12); and Milford, Massachusetts (1916-25). Translator of many hymns into, and author of a few in, Esperanto, as well as some hymns in English. 13 texts (incl. 3 original) in Adoru, plus two in Espero Katolika's supplement. Edited the largest online Esperanto hymnal, TTT-Himnaro Cigneta, now accessible via the Wayback Machine at archive.org, (https://web.archive.org/web/20091021113553/http://geocities.com/cigneto/pretaj.html) as well as in large part here on Hymnary.org. Lives near Seattle.
