O What Their Joy and Their Glory Must Be

Author: Peter Abelard (1079-1142); John Mason Neale (1818-1866) Meter: 10.10.10.10 Appears in 139 hymnals Scripture: Hebrews 11:8-16 Lyrics: 1 O what their joy and their glory must be, those endless sabbaths the blessed ones see: crown for the valiant, to weary ones rest: God shall be all and in all ever blest. 2 What are the monarch, the court, and the throne? What are the peace and the joy that they own? O that the blest ones, who in it have share, all that they feel could as fully declare! 3 Truly Jerusalem name we that shore, vision of peace, that brings joy evermore; wish and fulfillment can be severed ne'er, nor the thing prayed for come short of the prayer. 4 There, where no troubles distraction can bring, we the sweet anthems of Sion shall sing, while for thy grace, Lord, their voices of praise thy blessed people eternally raise. 5 Now, in the meantime, with hearts raised on high, we for that country must yearn and must sigh, seeking Jerusalem, dear native land, through our long exile on Babylon's strand. 6 Low before God with our praises we fall, of whom, and in whom, and through whom are all; praise to the Father, and praise to the Son, praise to the Spirit, with them ever one. This World Is Not My Home

Author: Albert E. Brumley Appears in 68 hymnals Scripture: Hebrews 11:13 Refrain First Line: O Lord, you know I have no friend like you Lyrics: 1 This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue; The angels beckon me from heaven's open door, And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. Chorus: O Lord, you know I have no friend like you, If heaven's not my home, then Lord what will I do? The angels beckon me from heaven's open door, And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. 2 They're all expecting me, and that's one thing I know, My Savior pardoned me and now I onward go; I know He'll take me thro' tho' I am weak and poor, And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. [Chorus] 3 I have a loving Savior up in glory-land, I don't expect to stop until I with Him stand, He's waiting now for me in heaven's open door, And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. [Chorus] 4 Just up in glory-land we'll live eternally, The saints on every hand are shouting victory, Their songs of sweetest praise drift back from heaven's shore, And I can't feel at home in this world anymore. [Chorus] Used With Tune: [This world is not my home]

Lift Every Voice and Sing

Author: James Weldon Johnson Meter: Irregular Appears in 53 hymnals Scripture: Hebrews 11:8-16 Lyrics: 1 Lift every voice and sing till earth and heaven ring, ring with the harmonies of liberty. Let our rejoicing rise high as the listening skies; let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us; sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us. Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, let us march on, till victory is won. 2 Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod, felt in the days when hope unborn had died. Yet, with a steady beat, have not our weary feet come to the place for which our parents sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered; we have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. 3 God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, thou who hast brought us thus far on the way; thou who hast by thy might led us into the light, keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee; lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee; shadowed beneath thy hand may we forever stand, true to our God, true to our native land.
