Christ's Passion and Sinners Salvation

Hymnal: Doctor Watts's Imitation of the Psalms of David, corrected and enlarged, to which is added a collection of hymns; the whole applied to the state of the Christian Church in general (2nd ed.) #130a (1786) Topics: Blood of Christ cleansing from Sin; Blood of Christ cleansing from Sin First Line: Deep in our hearts let us record Lyrics: 1 Deep in our hearts let us record The deeper sorrows of our Lord; Behold the rising billows roll To overwhelm his holy soul. 2 In long complaints he spends his breath, While hosts of hell, and pow'rs of death, And all the sons of malice join To execute their curst design. 3 Yet, gracious God, thy power and love Has made the curse a blessing prove; Those dreadful sufferings of thy Son Aton'd for crimes which we had done. 4 The pangs of our expiring Lord The honours of thy law restor'd: His sorrows made thy justice known And paid for follies not his own. 7 Oh for his sake our guilt forgive, And let the mourning sinner live: The Lord will hear us in his name, Nor shall our hope be turn'd to shame. 'Tis Not that I Did Choose Thee

Author: Josiah Conder Hymnal: Psalter Hymnal (Red) #378 (1934) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Topics: Cleansing From Sin Lyrics: 1 'Tis not that I did choose Thee, For, Lord, that could not be; This heart would still refuse Thee, Hadst Thou not chosen me. Thou from the sin that stained me Hast cleansed and set me free; Of old Thou hast ordained me, That I should live to Thee. 2 'Twas sovereign mercy called me And taught my opening mind; The world had else enthralled me, To heavenly glories blind. My heart owns none before Thee, For Thy rich grace I thirst; This knowing, if I love Thee, Thou must have loved me first. Languages: English Tune Title: SAVOY CHAPEL

Come, for the Feast is Spread

Author: Rev. Henry Burton Hymnal: Psalter Hymnal (Red) #403 (1934) Meter: 6.4.6.4.6.6.6.4 Topics: Cleansing From Sin Lyrics: 1 Come, for the feast is spread, Hark to the call; Come to the Living Bread, Offered to all. Come to His house of wine, Low on His breast recline, All that He has is thine; Come, sinner, come. 2 Come where the fountain flows, River of life; Healing for all thy woes, Doubting, and strife. Millions have been supplied, No one was e’er denied, Come to the crimson tide; Come, sinner, come. 3 Come to the throne of grace, Boldly draw near; He who would win the race Must tarry here. Whate’er thy want may be, Here is the grace for thee, Jesus thine only plea; Come, sinner, come. 4 Come to the Better land, Pilgrim, make haste; Earth is a foreign strand, Wilderness waste. Here are the harps of gold, Here are the joys untold, Crowns for the young and old; Come, pilgrim, come. 5 Jesus, we come to Thee, O take us in! Set Thou our spirits free, Cleanse us from sin. Then, in yon land of light, Clothed in our robes of white, Resting not day nor night, Thee will we sing. Languages: English Tune Title: SOMETHING FOR JESUS

Psalm 51 Part 3

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.120 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Blood of Christ cleansing from sin First Line: O Thou that hear'st when sinners cry Lyrics: O Thou that hear'st when sinners cry, Though all my crimes before thee lie, Behold them not with angry look, But blot their mem'ry from thy book. Create my nature pure within, And form my soul averse to sin: Let thy good Spirit ne'er depart, Nor hide thy presence from my heart. I cannot live without thy light Cast out and banished from thy sight: Thine holy joys, my God, restore, And guard me that I fall no more. Though I have grieved thy Spirit, Lord, His help and comfort still afford; And let a wretch come near thy throne, To plead the merits of thy Son. A broken heart, my God, my King, Is all the sacrifice I bring; The God of grace will ne'er despise A broken heart for sacrifice. My soul lies humbled in the dust, And owns thy dreadful sentence just: Look down, O Lord, with pitying eye, And save the soul condemned to die. Then will I teach the world thy ways; Sinners shall learn thy sovereign grace; I'll lead them to my Savior's blood, And they shall praise a pard'ning God. O may thy love inspire my tongue! Salvation shall be all my song; And all my powers shall join to bless The Lord, my strength and righteousness. Scripture: Psalm 51 Languages: English

Do we not know that solemn word

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #526 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Blood of Christ cleansing from sin Lyrics: Do we not know that solemn word, That we are buried with the Lord, Baptized into his death, and then Put off the body of our sin? Our souls receive diviner breath, Raised from corruption, guilt, and death; So from the grave did Christ arise, And lives to God above the skies. No more let sin or Satan reign Over our mortal flesh again; The various lusts we served before Shall have dominion now no more. Scripture: Romans 6:3-4 Languages: English

Psalm 51 Part 1

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.118 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Blood of Christ cleansing from sin First Line: Show pity, Lord, O Lord, forgive Lyrics: Show pity, Lord, O Lord, forgive, Let a repenting rebel live: Are not thy mercies large and free? May not a sinner trust in thee? My crimes are great, but not surpass The power and glory of thy grace: Great God, thy nature hath no bound, So let thy pard'ning love be found. O wash my soul from every sin, And make my guilty conscience clean; Here on my heart the burden lies, And past offences pain my eyes. My lips with shame my sins confess Against thy law, against thy grace: Lord, should thy judgment grow severe, I am condemned, but thou art clear. Should sudden vengeance seize my breath, I must pronounce thee just in death; And if my soul were sent to hell, Thy righteous law approves it well. Yet save a trembling sinner, Lord, Whose hope, still hov'ring round thy word, Would light on some sweet promise there, Some sure support against despair. Scripture: Psalm 51 Languages: English

Psalm 51 Part 2

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.122 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Blood of Christ cleansing from sin First Line: O God of mercy, hear my call Lyrics: O God of mercy, hear my call, My loads of guilt remove; Break down this separating wall, That bars me from my love. Give me the presence of thy grace, Then my rejoicing tongue Shall speak aloud thy righteousness, And make thy praise my song. No blood of goats nor heifers slain, For sin could e'er atone; The death of Christ shall still remain Sufficient and alone. A soul oppressed with sin's desert, My God will ne'er despise; A humble groan, a broken heart, Is our best sacrifice. Scripture: Psalm 51:14-17 Languages: English
