Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus Hymnal: Trinity Psalter Hymnal #430 (2018) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Topics: Salvation by Grace Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come by God’s free grace and favor. Our works cannot avert our doom; the law can save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, who for his people did atone; he is our one Redeemer. 2 What God did in his law demand and none to him could render caused wrath and woe on ev'ry hand for man, the vile offender. Our flesh has not the pure desires God's holy law of us requires, and lost is our condition. 3 It was a false, misleading dream that God his law had given so sinners could themselves redeem and by their works gain heaven. The law is just a mirror bright to bring the inbred sin to light that lurks within our nature. 4 From sin our flesh could not abstain; sin held its sway unceasing. The task was hopeless and in vain; our guilt was e’er increasing. None can remove sin’s poisoned dart or purify our guileful heart, so deep is our corruption. 5 Yet as the law must be fulfilled or we must die despairing, Christ Jesus came; God’s wrath he stilled, our human nature sharing. The law he has for us obeyed and thus the Father’s vengeance stayed which over us had rulèd. 6 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise to Father, Son, and Spirit, the God who saved us by his grace-- all glory to his merit! O triune God in heav’n above, who has revealed your saving love, your blessèd name be hallowed. Scripture: Romans 3:21-31 Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST DAS HEIL

To the name of our salvation

Author: John Mason Neale, 1818-1866 Hymnal: Complete Anglican Hymns Old and New #698 (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Topics: Redemption and Salvation Lyrics: 1 To the name of our salvation laud and honour let us pay, which for many a generation hid in God's foreknowledge lay, but with holy exultation we may sing aloud today. 2 Jesus is the name we treasure, name beyond what words can tell; name of gladness, name of pleasure, ear and heart delighting well; name of sweetness passing measure, saving us from sin and hell. 3 'Tis the name for adoration, name for songs of victory; name for holy meditation in the vale of misery; name for joyful veneration by the citizens on high. 4 'Tis the name that whoso preacheth speaks like music to the ear; who in prayer this name beseecheth sweetest comfort findeth near; who its perfect wisdom reacheth heav'nly joy possesseth here. 5 Jesus is the name exalted over ev'ry other name; in this name, whene'er assaulted, we can put our foes to shame: strength to them who else had halted, eyes to blind, and feet to lame. 6 Therefore we in love adoring this most blessèd name revere, holy Jesus, thee imploring so to write it in us here, that hereafter, heav'nward soaring, we may sing with angels there. God Is My Strong Salvation

Author: Paul Gerhardt; John Christian Jacobi Hymnal: Moravian Book of Worship #769 (1995) Topics: Salvation Lyrics: 1 God is my strong salvation, no enemy I fear; he hears my supplication, dispelling all my care; if he, my head and master, defend me from above, what pain or what disaster can part me from his love? 2 I fully am persuaded and joyfully declare I'm never left unaided, my Father hears my prayer; his comforts never fail me, he stands at my right hand; when tempests fierce assail me, they're calm at his command. 3 The ground of myprofession is Jesus and his blood; he gives me the possession of everlasting good. To me his Holy Spirit speaks many a precious word of rest to one who's seeking a refuge in the Lord. Scripture: Psalm 37:39 Languages: English Tune Title: ST. THEODULPH

Martial hosts assemble, Flushed with victory, Hell’s battalions tremble And prepare to flee. Refrain: Army of salvation! Army of the Lord! Christ our inspiration, Christ our great reward. 2 Whence have come these legions, Valiant, free and strong? Worldwide are the regions Where they combat wrong. Gathering ‘neath our banner While the trumpets blend, Here in fervent manner Let our praise ascend. 3 Plucked as brands from burning, Saved by Jesus’ might, Earth’s allurement spurning, We for Christ will fight. He who found and freed us From our captive chain, Surely he shall lead us To eternal gain. 4 Wondrous, wondrous story Of our God-made host, Unto Jesus glory, ‘Tis in him we boast.
