1897 - 1998 Editor of "" in Salvation Songs for Children, No. 2 Ruth (Harbaugh) Overholtzer graduated from the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (now Biola University). She was strongly influenced by Biola's dean and professor R. A. Torrey, one of the most famous evangelists of his day. Ruth married Jesse Irvin Overholtzer, who in 1937 founded the fundamentalist organization Child Evangelism Fellowship. Soon after, he started a Sunday School lesson program called Good News Club for which Ruth wrote the early curriculum. In 1942, Mrs. Ruth Overholtzer and students from Dallas Baptist University launched the Child Evangelism Magazine which featured flannelgraph figures for use in Sunday School lessons. CEF is currently ministering to children in countries around the world and in every state in the U.S.
