Lyrics: 1 You have longed for sweet peace, And for faith to increase, And have earnestly, fervently prayed. But you cannot have rest, Or be perfectly blest, Until all on the altar is laid. Refrain: Is your all on the altar of sacrifice laid? Your heart does the Spirit control? You can only be blest, And have peace and sweet rest, As you yield him your body and soul. 2 Would you walk with the Lord In the light of his Word, And have peace and contentment alway? You must do his sweet will To be free from all ill -- On the altar your all you must lay. [Refrain] 3 O we never can know What the Lord will bestow Of the blessings for which we have prayed, Till our body and soul He doth fully control, And our all on the altar is laid. [Refrain] 4 Who can tell all the love He will send from above, And how happy our hearts will be made, Of the fellowship sweet We shall share at his feet When our all on the altar is laid! Psalm 51 Part 3

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.120 (1806) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Sacrifice First Line: O Thou that hear'st when sinners cry Lyrics: O Thou that hear'st when sinners cry, Though all my crimes before thee lie, Behold them not with angry look, But blot their mem'ry from thy book. Create my nature pure within, And form my soul averse to sin: Let thy good Spirit ne'er depart, Nor hide thy presence from my heart. I cannot live without thy light Cast out and banished from thy sight: Thine holy joys, my God, restore, And guard me that I fall no more. Though I have grieved thy Spirit, Lord, His help and comfort still afford; And let a wretch come near thy throne, To plead the merits of thy Son. A broken heart, my God, my King, Is all the sacrifice I bring; The God of grace will ne'er despise A broken heart for sacrifice. My soul lies humbled in the dust, And owns thy dreadful sentence just: Look down, O Lord, with pitying eye, And save the soul condemned to die. Then will I teach the world thy ways; Sinners shall learn thy sovereign grace; I'll lead them to my Savior's blood, And they shall praise a pard'ning God. O may thy love inspire my tongue! Salvation shall be all my song; And all my powers shall join to bless The Lord, my strength and righteousness. Scripture: Psalm 51 Languages: English

Thus saith the Lord, your work is vain

Hymnal: Church Hymn Book #P.XL.II (1816) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: The Incarnation and Sacrifice of Christ Lyrics: 7 Thus saith the Lord, "your work is vain, "Give your burnt off'rings o’er; "In dying goats, and bullocks slain "My soul delights no more." 8 Then spake the Saviour, “Lo, I’m here, "My God, to do thy will; "Whate’er thy sacred books declare, "Thy servant shall fulfil. 9 "Thy law is ever in my sight, "I keep it near My heart; "Mine eyes are open'd with delight, "To what thy lips impart." 10 And see, the blessed Redeemer comes, Th’eternal Son appears, And at th’appointed time assumes The body God prepares. 11 Much he reveal'd His Father’s grace, And much his truth he show'd, And preach'd the way of righteousness Where great assemblies stood. 12 His Father’s honour touched his heart, He pity'd sinners’ cries, And, to fulfil a Saviour’s part, Was made a sacrifice. 13 No blood of beasts on altars shed Could wash the conscience clean, But the rich sacrifice he paid Atones for all our sin. 14 Then was the great salvation spread, And Satan’s kingdom shook; Thus by the woman’s promis'd seed The serpent’s head was broke. The Wonders, Lord, thy Love has wrought

Hymnal: The Psalms of David #P40c (1766) Topics: Christ his incarnation and sacrifice; Sabbath Sacrifice Lyrics: 1 The Wonders, Lord, thy Love has wrought, Exceed our Praise, surmount our Thought: Should I attempt the long Detail, My Speech would faint, my Numbers fail. 2 No Blood of Beasts on Altars spilt Can cleanse the Souls of Men from Guilt; But thou hast set before our Eyes An All-sufficient Sacrifice. 3 Lo! thine eternal Son appears, To thy Designs he bows his Ears; Assumes a Body well prepar'd, And well performs a Work so hard. 4 "Behold, I come (the Saviour cries, With Love and Duty in his Eyes) "I come to bear the heavy Load "Of Sins, and do thy Will, my GOD. 5 "'Tis written in thy great Decree, "'Tis in thy Book foretold of Me, "I must fulfil the Saviour's Part; "And lo! thy Law is in my Heart. 6 "I'll magnify thy holy Law, "And rebels to Obedience draw, "When on my Cross I'm lifted high, "Or to my Crown above the Sky. 7 "The Spirit shall descend and show "What thou hast done, and what I do; "The wond'ring World shall learn thy Grace, Thy Wisdom and thy Righteousness." Gracious God, My Heart Renew

Hymnal: Psalms for All Seasons #51O (2012) Topics: Offering of Sacrifice Lyrics: 1 Gracious God, my heart renew, make my spirit right and true; in your presence let me stay, by your Spirit show the way; your salvation's joy impart, steadfast make my willing heart. 2 So shall sinners be restored and return to you, their Lord; Savior, all my guilt remove, and my tongue shall sing your love; touch my silent lips, O Lord, and my mouth shall praise accord. 3 Not the formal sacrifice has acceptance in your eyes; broken hearts are in your sight more than sacrificial rite; contrite spirit, pleading cries, you, O God, will not despise. 4 Prosper Zion in thy grace and her broken walls replace: then our righteous sacrifice shall delight your holy eyes; freewill offerings, gladly made, on your altar shall be laid. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Author: Isaac Watts, 1674-1748 Hymnal: Worship and Service Hymnal #58 (1957) Topics: Christ Sacrifice; Sacrifice Lyrics: 1 When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. 2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ, my God; All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. 3 See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down; Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? 4 Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all. Amen. Languages: English Tune Title: HAMBURG
