At even, when the sun was set

Author: Henry Twells Hymnal: The Hymnal #399 (1916) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: At even, when the sun was set, The sick, O Lord, around thee lay; O in what divers pains they met! O with what joy they went away. Once more 'tis eventide, and we Oppressed with various ills draw near; What if thy form we cannot see? We know and feel that thou art here O Savior Christ, our woes dispel; For some are sick, and some are sad, And some have never loved thee well, And some have lost the love they had, And some have found the world is vain, Yet from the world they break not free, And some have friends who give them pain, Yet have not sought a friend in thee. 363 And none, O Lord, have perfect rest, For none are wholly free from sin; And they who fain would love thee best Are conscious most of wrong within. O Savior Christ, thou too art Man; Thou hast been troubled, tempted, tried, Thy kind but searching glance can scan The very wounds that shame would hide. Thy touch has still its ancient power; No word from thee can fruitless fall; Hear, in this solemn evening hour, And in thy mercy heal us all. Amen. Topics: Daily Prayer Evening; Visitation; Parochial Missions Languages: English Tune Title: ANGELUS

God of my life, Whose gracious power

Author: Charles Wesley Hymnal: Common Service Book of the Lutheran Church #405 (1917) Lyrics: 1 God of my life, Whose gracious power Through various deaths my soul hath led; Or turned aside the fatal hour, Or lifted up my sinking head; 2 In all my ways Thy hand I own, Thy ruling Providence I see; O help me still my course to run, And still direct my paths to Thee. 3 Whither, O whither should I fly, But to my loving Saviour's breast? Secure within Thine arms to lie, And safe beneath Thy wings to rest. 4 Foolish, and impotent, and blind, Lead me a way I have not known; Bring me where I my heaven may find, The heaven of loving Thee alone. 5 Enlarge my heart to make Thee room; Enter, and in me ever stay: The crooked then shall straight become, The darkness shall be lost in day. Amen. Topics: The Christian Life Cross and Comfort Languages: English Tune Title: ANGELUS
