We Meet as Friends at Table

Author: Brian Wren, 1936- Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Lyrics: 1 We meet as friends at table, to listen, and be heard, united by the Spirit, attentive to the Word. Through prayer and conversation we tune our varied views to Christ, whose love has made us the bearers of good news. 2 With food and drink for sharing the table soon is spread. The freedom meal of Jesus is crowned with wine and bread, and all, without exception, may eat, and speak, and stay, for this is Christ's own table where none are turned away. 3 We share our lives and longings, and when the meal is done we pray as friends at table, and promise to be one. To Christ, and to each other, we cheerfully belong: apart, our hope is fruitless; together, we are strong. 4 Fulfilled, and glad to follow wherever Christ may lead, we journey from the table to love a world in need with patience, truth and kindness, that justice may increase and all may sit at table in freedom, joy, and peace. Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 Used With Tune: MEAL OF LOVE

With Welcome Heart We Greet You, Lord

Author: Fred R. Anderson, 1941- Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Lyrics: 1 With welcome heart we greet you, Lord, the giver of this day. For rest and safety through the night receive our thanks we pray. We venture forth into this day upon the paths you set. So use us in your service, Lord, wherever need is met. 2 We gather in the name of Christ to bless your holy name. You touch us in our hops and fears our triumph and our pain. You give us power to be new, removing our regret. You send us forth to share good news wherever need is met. 3 The orphaned child whose past is lost to brokenness and pain. The anxious young confused with choice which offers loss or gain. The eager student working hard, yet caught in worry's net; so use us, Lord, with each of these, wherever need is met. 4 So shall we love and serve you, Lord, Good Shepherd of our days. And trust you on this path of life to guide in faithful ways. When threatened by the shade of death, still we shall trust you yet, to draw us wholly to yourself, for there all need is met. Scripture: Ephesians 1:19 Used With Tune: GALLANT

Hymn of Promise

Author: Natalie Sleeth, 1930-1992 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 25 hymnals First Line: In the bulb there is a flower Lyrics: 1 In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free! In the cold and snow of winter there's a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. 2 There's a song in every silence, seeking word and melody; there's a dawn in every darkness bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. 3 In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity; in our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. Topics: Promise & Hope Scripture: Psalm 30:5 Used With Tune: PROMISE
