Author: W. Gadsby Meter: 6.6.8.6 Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: The Properties of Scripture First Line: When Ruth a gleaning went Lyrics: 1 [When Ruth a-gleaning went, Jehovah was her guide; To Boaz’ field he led her straight, And she became his bride.] 2 Jesus my Boaz is; My strength and portion too; His word of grace the precious field, Where I a-gleaning go. 3 O what a heavenly field! What handfuls it contains! What strength and comfort gleaners get, To recompense their pains! 4 Rejoice, ye mourning souls; Ye broken hearts, be strong; The field is ripe for harvest now, And ye shall glean ere long. 5 Ye gleaners, one and all, Let Christ be all your song; He is your strength and portion too, And you to him belong. 6 [All blessings he contains; He cannot let you starve; The meanest gleaner in his field, At length shall walk at large.]

Elijah Bent and Touched the Earth

Author: Daniel Charles Damon Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Scripture-Based Lyrics: 1 Elijah bent and touched the earth, his face between his knees. He prayed to see a little cloud, to feel a cooling breeze. "I hear the sound of rushing rain, the fragrance fills the air. Go up now, look out toward the sea." The boy saw nothing there. 2 "Why is Elijah sending me? These seven times I go. But wait! a cloud is forming there, so small, so soft, so low, no larger than a person's hand, and rising from the sea. As I looked out in my despair, a cloud appeared to me." 3 "Go tell the wicked king to ride his chariot back to town." The sky turns black, the wind comes up, the saving rain pours down. Our lives and lands, both parched and dry, are rich again with rain. This land will blossom like a rose, and joy may rise again. Scripture: 1 Kings 18:41-46 Used With Tune: RAIN SONG

Whilst all my brethren clearly trace Their father's likeness in my face. Scripture: John 1:12
