1776 - 1836 Hymnal Number: 547 Author of "Blest Jesus, When Thy Cross I View" in The Cyber Hymnal Speece, Conrad, D.D., b. at New London, Va., Nov. 7, 1776; ordained by the Presbytery of Baltimore, April 22, 1804; and died Feb. 17, 1836. Full particulars concerning him are given in W. H. Foote's Sketches of Virginia, 2nd series, 1855. His hymn, "Blest Jesus, when Thy cross I view" (Good Friday), is dated Oct. 6, 1800, and was first printed in The Connecticut Evangelical Magazine, vol. ii. It was included in the Presbyterian Psalms and Hymns, 1831, 1843, and 1901, and is still found in some modern collections. [Rev. L. F. 1828 - 1905 Person Name: Susie V. Aldrich Hymnal Number: 7887 Author of "The Messenger" in The Cyber Hymnal Miss Susanna Valentine Aldrich, author, was born in Hopkinton, Mass, 14th November, 1828. She is the only child of Willard and Lucy (Morse) Aldrich. From her earliest years she showed a decided literary bent. Her studies were interrupted by a severe illness lasting for years. A victim to insomnia, she always kept paper and pencil within reach in order to jot down the fancies that thronged upon her. Encouraged by the Rev. J. C. Webster, her pastor, also one of the directors of the academy which Miss Aldrich attended, some of her compositions were offered to a magazine, and were accepted. For many years Miss Aldrich contributed both prose and poetry to a number of papers and magazines. since 1879 she has made her home in the Roxbury District of Boston. Solomon S. Allsop

1824 - 1913 Hymnal Number: 9106 Author of "Our Hymn Of Thanks We Sing Today" in The Cyber Hymnal Solomon Smithee Allsop was the son of a Bap­tist miss­ion­a­ry in Ja­mai­ca, and hus­band of Ma­ria Ro­berts. He re­turned to Eng­land af­ter his fa­ther died in 1829. In 1860, All­sop be­came pas­tor of a Gen­er­al Bap­tist church in Whit­tle­sey, Cam­bridge­shire. He la­ter served in Long­ford (near Co­ven­try) and March, then moved to Bur­ton-on-Trent in 1879. New cha­pels were built in March and Bur­ton-on-Trent in con­nec­tion with his min­is­try (the lat­ter was re­ferred to as Sol­o­mon’s Tem­ple). While All­sop was pas­tor at Long­ford (1864–68), it was the cus­tom to have an orig­in­al hymn at the Sun­day school an­ni­ver­sar­ies, and he wrote sev­er­al for these oc­ca­sions. Allsop be­came pre­si­dent of the Bap­tist An­nu­al Ass­oc­i­a­tion in 1879.
