Psalm 143

Hymnal: Hymns of Glory, Songs of Praise #99 (2008) Meter: 6.6.8.4 D First Line: Oh, hear my prayer, Lord Lyrics: 1 Oh, hear my prayer, Lord, be open to my plea, with justice and with faithfulness please answer me. My spirit shrivels up, my heart numbs with despair, in awe of your great deeds I raise my earnest prayer. 2 I thirst for your response, thirst like the desert lands; entreating you, my God, I lift my outstretched hands. Lord, quickly make reply and do not hide your face, or else my spirit faints from lack of your embrace. 3 Because I trust in you and offer you my prayer, let me, when morning comes, discern your loving care. My heart is set on you; this earnest plea I make, that you will show the road my life is meant to take. Praise to the living God

Author: Max Landsberg, 1845-1928; Newton Mann, 1836-1926; William Channing Gannett, 1840-1923 Hymnal: Together in Song #102 (1999) Meter: 6.6.8.4 D Lyrics: 1 Praise to the living God, all praise be to his name, who was, and is, and is to be, and still the same: the one eternal God before what now appears, the First, the Last, beyond all thought his timeless years! 2 Formless, all lovely forms declare his loveliness; holy, no holiness of earth can his express. Behold the Lord of all: creation speaks his praise, and everywhere above, below, his will obeys. 3 God's Spirit freely flows, high surging where it will: in prophet's word he spoke of old, is speaking still. Established is God's law and changeless it shall stand, deep written on the human heart, on sea, on land. 4 God has eternal life implanted in the soul; his love shall be our strength and stay while ages roll. To him my spirit clings, on him my soul is cast; beneath the shadow of his wings he holds me fast. 3 God is my strong defense in every evil hour; in him I face with confidence the tempter's power. God's Holy Spirit Came

Author: Michael Denham; Mary Jackson Cathey Hymnal: Singing the New Testament #118 (2008) Meter: 6.6.8.4 D Lyrics: 1 God's Holy Spirit came with rushing wind and fire, Christ's presence here to comfort, bless, and to inspire. The Spirit thus began God's holy work on earth at Pentecost, a gift that gave the church its birth. 2 God sent the Spirit forth, fulfilling prophets' word, to those who followed Jesus and who called him Lord. Disciples gathered near the temple courts in prayer. The Spirit blew and rested on those clustered there. 3 God's Spirit filled each one as Jesus had foretold. In many tongues they spoke God's word, renewed and bold. "Repent and be baptized," preached Peter in that hour, and thousands came believing by the Spirit's power. 4 God's church alive today continues to proclaim salvation by the Spirit's power in Jesus' name. Let all believers now their tongues and lives employ. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost: our highest joy!
