The Church of Christ in Every Age

Author: Fred Pratt Green, b. 1903 Hymnal: RitualSong #803 (1996) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Mark 10:35-45 First Line: The church of Christ in ev'ry age Lyrics: 1 The Church of Christ in ev'ry age Beset by change but Spirit led, Must claim and test its heritage And keep on rising from the dead. 2 Across the world, across the street, The victims of injustice cry For shelter and for bread to eat, And never live until they die. 3 Then let the servant Church arise, A caring Church that longs to be A partner in Christ's sacrifice, And clothed in Christ's humanity. 4 For he alone, whose blood was shed, Can cure the fever in our blood, And teach us how to share our bread And feed the starving multitude. 5 We have no mission but to serve In full obedience to our Lord: To care for all, without reserve, And spread his liberating Word. Salvation now to us has come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551; Carl Döving, 1867-1936 Hymnal: Together in Song #195 (1999) Meter: 8.7.87.8.8.7 Scripture: Mark 10:45 Lyrics: 1 Salvation now to us has come by God’s free grace and favour; good works cannot avert our doom, they help and save us never. In faith we look to Christ alone, who did for all the world atone; he is our one redeemer. 2 The law of God fulfilled must be, or we were lost for ever; therefore God sent his Son that he might us from death deliver. For us the law he has fulfilled, the Father's anger he has stilled; God's curse is gone for ever. 3 Since Christ has full atonement made and brought us to salvation, each Christian therefore may be glad, and build on this foundation: your grace alone, dear Lord, we plead, your death is now our life indeed, for you have paid our ransom. 4 To you, O Lord, in faith we cling, we love and trust you truly, and from this faith good works will spring that serve our neighbour duly. It's faith alone that justified; the works that from such faith arise reveal that it is living. 5 All blessing, honour, thanks and praise to Father, Son, and Spirit, to God who saved us by his grace; all glory to his merit! O Triune God, in heaven above, you have revealed your saving love; your blessèd name we hallow. Rejoice in God's Saints

Author: Fred Pratt Green, 1903-2000 Hymnal: Worship and Rejoice #531 (2003) Meter: 10.10.11.11 Scripture: Mark 10:45 First Line: Rejoice in God's saints, today and all days Lyrics: 1 Rejoice in God's saints, today and all days; a world without saints forgets how to praise. Their faith in acquiring the habit of prayer, their depth of adoring, Lord, help us to share. 2 Some march with events to turn them God's way; some need to withdraw, the better to pray; some carry the gospel through fire and through flood: our world is their parish; their purpose is God. 3 Rejoice in those saints, unpraised and unknown, who bear someone's cross or shoulder their own; they shame our complaining, our comforts, our cares: what patience in caring, what courage, is theirs! 4 Rejoice in God's saints, today and all days; a world without saints forgets how to praise. In loving, in living, they prove it is true: the way of self-giving, Lord, leads us to you. Languages: English Tune Title: HANOVER

Praise the One Who Breaks the Darkness

Author: Rusty Edwards Hymnal: Catholic Book of Worship III #582 (1994) Scripture: Mark 10:45-52 Lyrics: 1 Praise the One who breaks the darkness With a liberating light. Praise the One who frees the pris'ners, Turning blindness into sight. Praise the One who preached the Gospel, Healing every dread disease, Calming storms and feeding thousands With the very bread of peace. 2 Praise the One who blessed the children With a strong yet gentle word. Praise the One who drove out demons With the piercing two-edged sword. Praise the One who brings cool water To the desert's burning sand. From this well comes living water, Quenching thirst in every land. 3 Praise the one true love incarnate: Christ, who suffered in our place. Jesus died and rose for many That we may know God by grace. Let us sing for joy and gladness, Seeing what our God has done. Praise the one redeeming glory, Praise the One who makes us one.
