Salvation now to us has come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551; Carl Döving, 1867-1936 Hymnal: Together in Song #195 (1999) Meter: 8.7.87.8.8.7 Topics: Faith; Grace; Jesus Christ Redeemer; Justification; Law of God; Salvation; Service; Sin; Trust in God Lyrics: 1 Salvation now to us has come by God’s free grace and favour; good works cannot avert our doom, they help and save us never. In faith we look to Christ alone, who did for all the world atone; he is our one redeemer. 2 The law of God fulfilled must be, or we were lost for ever; therefore God sent his Son that he might us from death deliver. For us the law he has fulfilled, the Father's anger he has stilled; God's curse is gone for ever. 3 Since Christ has full atonement made and brought us to salvation, each Christian therefore may be glad, and build on this foundation: your grace alone, dear Lord, we plead, your death is now our life indeed, for you have paid our ransom. 4 To you, O Lord, in faith we cling, we love and trust you truly, and from this faith good works will spring that serve our neighbour duly. It's faith alone that justified; the works that from such faith arise reveal that it is living. 5 All blessing, honour, thanks and praise to Father, Son, and Spirit, to God who saved us by his grace; all glory to his merit! O Triune God, in heaven above, you have revealed your saving love; your blessèd name we hallow. Scripture: 1 John 2:1-2 Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST DAS HEIL

O Wherefore Do the Nations Rage

Hymnal: Trinity Hymnal (Rev. ed.) #314 (1990) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Jesus Christ His Kingly Office; Danger of Delay; Faith In Christ; Fear of God; God Wrath of Lyrics: 1 O wherefore do the nations rage, and kings and rulers strive in vain, against the Lord of earth and heav'n to overthrow Messiah's reign? 2 Their strength is weakness in the sight of him who sits enthroned above; he speaks, and judgments fall on them who tempt his wrath and scorn his love. 3 By God's decree his Son receives the nations for his heritage; the conqu'ring Christ supreme shall reign as King of kings, from age to age. 4 Be wise, ye rulers of the earth, and serve the Lord with godly fear; with rev'rent joy confess the Son while yet in mercy he is near. 5 Delay not, lest his anger rise, and ye should perish in your way; lo, all that put their trust in him are blest indeed, and blest alway. Abide with me: fast falls the eventide

Author: Henry Francis Lyte (1793-1847) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #580 (2005) Meter: 10.10.10.10 Topics: Our Response to Christ In Devotion; Our Response to God in the morning and evening; The Church Celebrates Death and Grieving; Change; Death and Bereavement; God Faithfulness of; Jesus cross Lyrics: 1 Abide with me: fast falls the eventide; the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide: when other helpers fail, and comforts flee, help of the helpless, O abide with me. 2 Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away; change and decay in all around I see: O thou who changest not, abide with me. 3 I need thy presence every passing hour; what but thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who like thyself my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. 4 I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless; ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness: where is death's sting? where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still if thou abide with me. 5 Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes, shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies; heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee: in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
