Psalm 65 Part 3

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts, The #Ps.140 (1806) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Praise and prayer public; Prayer and praise, public; Public prayer and praise First Line: Good is the Lord, the heav'nly King Lyrics: Good is the Lord, the heav'nly King, Who makes the earth his care; Visits the pastures ev'ry spring, And bids the grass appear. The clouds, like rivers raised on high, Pour out at thy command Their wat'ry blessings from the sky, To cheer the thirsty land. The softened ridges of the field Permit the corn to spring; The valleys rich provision yield, And the poor lab'rers sing. The little hills, on every side, Rejoice at falling showers; The meadows, dressed in all their pride, Perfume the air with flowers. The barren clods, refreshed with rain, Promise a joyful crop; The parching grounds look green again, And raise the reaper's hope. The various months thy goodness crowns; How bounteous are thy ways! The bleating flocks spread o'er the downs, And shepherds shout thy praise. Scripture: Psalm 65 Languages: English

The Praise of Sion waits for Thee

Hymnal: The Psalms of David #P65a (1766) Topics: Praise and prayer public; Worship public Lyrics: 1 The Praise of Sion waits for Thee, My GOD; and Praise becomes thy House; There shall thy Saints thy Glory see, And there perform their public Vows. 2 O Thou, whose Mercy bends the Skies To save when humble Sinners pray; All Lands to Thee shall lift their Eyes, And Islands of the Northern Sea. 3 Against my Will my Sins prevail, But Grace shall purge away their Stain; The Blood of CHRIST will never fail To wash my Garments white again. 4 Blest is the Man whom thou shalt chuse, And give him kind Access to Thee; Give him a Place within thy House, To taste thy Love divinely free. Pause. 5 Let Babel fear when Sion prays; Babel prepare for long Distress, When Sion's GOD himself arrays In Terror and in Righteousness. 6 With dreadful Glory GOD fulfils What his afflicted Saints request; And with Almighty Wrath reveals His Love, to give his Churches Rest. 7 Then shall the flocking Nations run To Sion's Hill, and own their Lord; The rising and the setting Sun Shall see the Saviour's Name ador'd. How oft have sin and Satan strove

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #135 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Praise and prayer public; Prayer and praise, public; Public prayer and praise Lyrics: How oft have sin and Satan strove To rend my soul from thee, my God! But everlasting is thy love, And Jesus seals it with his blood. The oath and promise of the Lord Join to confirm the wondrous grace; Eternal power performs the word, And fills all heav'n with endless praise. Amidst temptations sharp and long, My soul to this dear refuge flies; Hope is my anchor, firm and strong, While tempests blow and billows rise. The gospel bears my spirit up; A faithful and unchanging God Lays the foundation for my hope In oaths, and promises, and blood. Scripture: Hebrews 6:17-19 Languages: English

Now to the power of God supreme

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #190 (1835) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Topics: Praise and prayer public; Prayer and praise, public; Public prayer and praise Lyrics: Now to the power of God supreme Be everlasting honors giv'n; He saves from hell, (we bless his name,) He calls our wand'ring feet to heav'n. Not for our duties or deserts, But of his own abounding grace, He works salvation in our hearts, And forms a people for his praise. 'Twas his own purpose that begun To rescue rebels doomed to die; He gave us grace in Christ his Son Before he spread the starry sky. Jesus the Lord appears at last, And makes his Father's counsels known; Declares the great transactions past, And brings immortal blessings down. He dies, and in that dreadful night Did all the powers of hell destroy; Rising, he brought our heav'n to light, And took possession of the joy. Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:9-10 Languages: English

His honor is engaged to save The meanest of his sheep; All that his heav'nly Father gave His hands securely keep. Nor death nor hell shall e'er remove His favorites from his breast; In the dear bosom of his love They must for ever rest. Scripture: John 10:28-29 Languages: English

Mistaken souls! that dream of heaven

Author: Isaac Watts Hymnal: The Psalms and Hymns of Dr. Watts #280 (1835) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Topics: Praise and prayer public; Prayer and praise, public; Public prayer and praise Lyrics: Mistaken souls, that dream of heav'n, And make their empty boast Of inward joys, and sins forgiv'n, While they are slaves to lust! Vain are our fancies, airy flights, If faith be cold and dead; None but a living power unites To Christ the living head. 'Tis faith that changes all the heart; 'Tis faith tbat works by love; That bids all sinful joys depart, And lifts the thoughts above. 'Tis faith that conquers earth and hell By a celestial power; This is the grace that shall prevail In the decisive hour. [Faith must obey her Father's will, As well as trust his grace; A pard'ning God is jealous still For his own holiness.] When from the curse he sets us free, He makes our natures clean; Nor would he send his Son to be The minister of sin. [His Spirit purifies our frame, And seals our peace with God; Jesus and his salvation came By water and by blood.] Scripture: Psalm 65 Languages: English
