1790 - 1870 Translator of "Gone is the hollow, murky night" in Hymns of the Kingdom of God Doubleday, Thomas, was the son of a Quaker of the firm of Doubleday & Easterby, Soap Boilers, Newcastle on Tyne. When over 30 years of age he joined the Church of England, and died in her communion. He was the author of two dramas, Diocletian, and Caius Marius; and of a novel, The Eve of St. Mark. His translations from the Latin were published as Hymnarium Anglicanum in 1814. Born Feb. 1790; died Dec. 18, 1870.
