1837 - 1926 Person Name: King Alfred Author (attributed to) of "O God, Our Maker, Throned on High" in The Cyber Hymnal

1831 - 1911 Person Name: Robert M. Moorsom Adapter of "O God, Our Maker, Throned on High" in The Cyber Hymnal Moorsom, Robert Maude, M.A., son of Admiral Moorsom, was born at Cosgrove Priory, Feb. 2, 1831, and educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham, and Trinity College, Cambridge, B.A., 1854; M.A., 1858. Taking Holy Orders in 1857, he was Curate of Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, 1857-59; Barnham-Broom, Norfolk, 1861; and Rector of Sadberge, Durham, 1861-81. Mr. Moorsom published in 1889 A Historical Companion to Hymns Ancient and Modern. He has also edited a pamphlet on The Writers of Hymns Ancient & Modern, according to their Churches, and contributed to the 1889 Supplemental Hymns to Hymns Ancient & Modern. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, Appendix, Part II (1907) ================== Moorsom, R. M., p. 1580, ii. In 1901 Mr. Moorsom published Renderings of Church Hymns from Eastern and Western Office Books. These translations of Syrian, Armenian, and other hymns from Eastern sources, together with renderings from the Greek and Latin Office Books, are well done, and have already received deserved attention at the hands of hymnal compilers. Charles E. Moberly

1820 - 1893 Composer of "CHARNWOOD (Moberly)" Moberly, Charles Edward, M.A., son of W. Moberly and nephew of the late Bp. Moberly of Salisbury, born in 1820, and educated at Balliol College, Oxford (B.A. 1840). He was sometime assistant master at Rugby School, and then Rector of Coin-Rogers, Gloucestershire. He retired from the latter in 1883. His hymn "If Thou, O God, wert all unrest" (Faith) was contributed to Hymns for the Use of Rugby School, 1876. --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, Appendix, Part II (1907)

Thomas Tiplady

1882 - 1967 Person Name: Thomas Tiplady, 1882-1967 Author of "We Leave Thy House, but Leave Not Thee" in The Cyber Hymnal Tiplady, Thomas. Was Director of the Lambeth Mission in South London, which was maintained under the auspices of the Methodist Church. --The Hymn Society, DNAH Archives ============================== Thomas Tiplady is the Director of the Lambeth Mission in South London which is maintained under the auspices of the Methodist Church. There for thirty-seven years he has ministered among the poor of that section of the great British metropolis. It has been a ministry with many unique features among them a moving picture program at the "Ideal" which has become an institution in itself. Out of this work in London have come several volumes of hymns written originially for use in the services at the Mission. Several of these hymns are to be found in American hymnbooks. He is a member of the Hymn Society of America; and has had close relationship with the Society and its members. --Eleven Ecumenical Hymns, 1954. Used by permission.
