Author of "O Dark Was The Night" in The Cyber Hymnal In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

1829 - 1905 Person Name: Benn Wilkes Jones Trevaldwyn Composer of "[O dark was the night and cold blew the wind]" in The Cyber Hymnal Benn W. J. Trevaldwyn was born about 1829 in Kerry, Montgomeryshire, Wales. He was a writer and poet. Trevaldwyn changed his name from Benn Wilkes Jones to Benn Wilkes Jones Trevaldwyn while Rector of Nether Whitacre, Warwickshire, in 1872. He died on January 26, 1905 in Looe, Cornwall.
