E. A. Hoffman

1839 - 1929 Person Name: Rev. Elisha A. Hoffman Author of "Open the Wells of Salvation" in Singing Revival Elisha Hoffman (1839-1929) after graduating from Union Seminary in Pennsylvania was ordained in 1868. As a minister he was appointed to the circuit in Napoleon, Ohio in 1872. He worked with the Evangelical Association's publishing arm in Cleveland for eleven years. He served in many chapels and churches in Cleveland and in Grafton in the 1880s, among them Bethel Home for Sailors and Seamen, Chestnut Ridge Union Chapel, Grace Congregational Church and Rockport Congregational Church. In his lifetime he wrote more than 2,000 gospel songs including"Leaning on the everlasting arms" (1894). The fifty song books he edited include Pentecostal Hymns No. 1 and The Evergreen, 1873. Charles Edward Pollock

1853 - 1928 Person Name: Chas. Edw. Pollock Composer of "[Lord, I am fondly, earnestly longing]" in Singing Revival Charles Edward Pollock USA 1853-1928. Born at Newcastle, PA, he moved to Jefferson City, MO, when age 17. He was a cane maker for C W Allen. He also worked 20 years for the MO Pacific Railroad, as a depot clerk and later as Assistant Roadmaster. He was a musician and prolific songwriter, composing 5000+ songs, mostly used in Sunday school settings and church settings. He took little remuneration for his compositions, preferring they be freely used. He produced three songbooks: “Praises”, “Beauty of praise”, and “Waves of melody”. In 1886 he married Martha (Mattie) Jane Harris, and they had three children: Robert, Edward, and a daughter. He died in Merriam, KS. John Perry ================= Pollock, Charles Edward. Charles E. Pollock

1871 - 1924 Composer of "OPEN THE WELLS" in Voices Together Pollock, Charles Edward. (Illinois, 1872--February 21, 1924, El Paso County, Texas). Charles E. Pollock was born on a farm in Lincoln, Illinois. He later worked at rounding up cattle in New Mexico before working with the railroad as brakeman, engineer and conductor. Later he became chief of police in El Paso, Texas. He wrote the hymn "Above the Bright Blue." Not to be confused with Charles Edward Pollock, (1853-1954).
