58a. Christians, Are the Words You Speak

1 Christians, are the words you speak,
Like your Master's, kind and meek?
Do you judge your fellow-men,
As you would be judged again?

2 Do you in your conduct prove,
Children of a God of love,
Good and gentle, just and true,
As your Lord has been to you?

3 Ah, the bitterness of sin,
Lurks the fallen heart within,
And from thence unceasing flows,
Poisoning, blighting as it goes!

4 Lord, the slanderer's malice blast:
Let it come to naught at last,
Let Your rescued people cry,
'Yes, there is a God on high!'
