249. Redeemed by His Blood

1 Go with me to Gethsemane,
The Savior bowed in prayer there see,
While in His bitter agony,
He sweats great drops of blood for thee.

Refrain:
O not by silver, nor by gold,
Nor things corruptible as these,
But by His precious, priceless blood,
Christ gained us our release.

2 Go! see Him bound of hands and feet,
While scourge and thong and biting lash,
Laid on by brutal soldiers’ hands,
Draw streams of blood from many a gash. [Refrain]

3 Go! see again that life-blood flow,
From thorns that pierce His kindly brow,
While crowds contemptuous stand around,
And, mocking, low before Him bow. [Refrain]

4 Go with me now to Calvary,
There see Him hanging on the tree
Until the last drops of His blood
Was shed to set this vile world free. [Refrain]
