All glory be to God on high

Author: N. Decius, d. 1541 Hymnal: The Lutheran Hymnary #2 (1913) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 All glory be to God on high, Who hath our race befriended! To us no harm shall now come nigh, The strife at last is ended; God showeth His good will to men, And peace shall reign on earth again; O thank Him for His goodness! 2 We praise, we worship Thee, we trust, And give Thee thanks for ever, O Father, that Thy rule is just And wise, and changes never; Thy boundless power o'er all things reigns, Done is whate'er Thy will ordains: Well for us that Thou rulest! 3 O Jesus Christ, God's only Son, Who with Thy Father reignest, Thou, who didst save a world undone, Our hope and stay remainest; O Lamb of God, to Thee on high From out our depths we sinners cry, Have mercy on us, Jesus! 4 O Holy Ghost, Thou precious Gift, Thou Comforter unfailing, O'er Satan's snares our souls uplift, And let Thy power availing Avert our woes and calm our dread, For us the Saviour's blood was shed, We trust in Thee to save us! Thou holy Church, God's city, shine

Author: M. B. Landstad Hymnal: The Lutheran Hymnary #79 (1913) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Thou holy Church, God's city, shine, High on His mountain founded? Sing praise to Christ, thy king divine, Who thee with walls surrounded; Thy children He doth bless and sends His peace to thee, thy strife He ends: Now praise thy God, O Zion! 2 He sendeth out His holy word To every land and nation, It swiftly runs, 'tis from the Lord His message of salvation; The hearts that were like ice and snow, It melts so that in streams they flow With tears of true repentance. 3 Who now but will himself deny, And yield to God submission, His word receive, on Christ rely, Obtains a full remission; He is converted and made wise, And goest from hence to Paradise: Grant us this grace, O Savior! What God Ordains Is Always Good

Author: Samuel Rodigast, 1649-1708 Hymnal: Lutheran Worship #422 (1982) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 What God ordains is always good: His will is just and holy. As he directs my life for me, I follow meek and lowly. My God indeed In ev'ry need Knows well how he will shield me; To him, then, I will yield me. 2 What God ordains is always good: He never will deceive me; He leads me in his own right way, And never will he leave me. I take content What he has sent; His hand that sends me sadness Will turn my tears to gladness. 3 What God ordains is always good: His loving thought attends me; No poison can be in the cup That my physician sends me. My God is true; Each morning new I trust his grace unending, My life to him commending. 4 What God ordains is always good: He is my friend and father; He suffers naught to do me harm Though many storms may gather. Now I may know Both joy and woe; Some day I shall see clearly That he has loved me dearly. 5 What God ordains is always good: Though I the cup am drinking Which savors now of bitterness, I take it without shrinking. For after grief God gives relief, My heart with comfort filling And all my sorrow stilling. 6 What God ordains is always good: This truth remains unshaken. Though sorrow, need, or death be mine, I shall not be forsaken. I fear no harm, For with his arm He shall embrace and shield me; So to my God I yield me. Lord of Spirits, I Surrender

Author: Johann S. C. Welhaven; George T. Rygh, 1860-1942 Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #4019 Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1. Lord of spirits, I surrender For Thy use Thy gifts to me: O but show Thy mercy tender When my song no more shall be; More and more my heart’s aflutter With the thoughts I may not utter, While life’s riddle great I ponder. 2. Let my laurels in oblivion Turn to dust, I shall rejoice If my soul, renewed, is given There to sing with sacred voice, If, in accents pure and glorious, I may join the hymn victorious At Thy throne to harps of Heaven. Languages: English Tune Title: LORD OF SPIRITS
