Birth Year: 1842
Death Year: 1905

Born: March 21, 1842, Cincinnati, Ohio.
Died: March 16, 1905, Monterrey, Mexico. She and her husband James had been visiting their son Rankin, an engineer for the Mexican National Railway. While accompanying his wife’s body back to Connecticut, James fell ill and died in Washington, DC.
Buried: Garden Street Cemetery, Farmington, Connecticut.

Mary was the daughter of William and Ella Hope (Stevens) Rankin, and had a brother who was a professor at Princeton University. In 1870, she married James Gibson Johnson, who pastored several congregations, including the New England Congregational Church in Chicago, Illinois, where he met James McGranahan.
