Person Name: Anon. Author of "In the pleasant sunny meadows" in Hymns of the Centuries In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.

Died: May 1, 1915, Baltimore, Maryland.
Buried: Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Son of composer Edward Hodges, John emigrated to America in 1845, and attended Columbia University and the General Theological Seminary in New York City. Ordained an Episcopal minister in 1854, he served at the Grace/Second Episcopal Church, Newark, New Jersey (1860-70), and was Rector of St. Paul’s, Baltimore, Maryland, for 35 years. His works include:

1820 - 1885 Person Name: Rt. Rev. J. F. Young Composer of "IN THE MEADOWS" in The Church Porch John Freeman Young (1820-1885)
Born: October 30, 1820, Pittston, Maine.
Died: November 15, 1885, New York City.
Buried: Old City Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida.
Young attended Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut; Wesleyan Seminary, Readfield, Maine; and the Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, Virginia. Ordained a Protestant Episcopal minister, he served in Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and New York, and became the second bishop of Florida in 1867. His works include:

Daniel Batchellor
1845 - 1934 Person Name: D. Batchellor Composer of "[In the pleasant sunny meadows]" in Childhood Songs Daniel Batchellor United Kingdom 1845-1934. Born in London and educated in Brighton, he was a Quaker who wrote children's songs and musical instruction books. He emigrated to America in 1877, arriving in Boston. He worked at the New England Conservatory and the Oratory at Boston University. He promoted the Tonic Sol-Fa singing method, but the movement failed to establish itself. In 1920, a widower, he lived with his daughter, Marion, and her family in Baltimore, and later in Washington, D.C. He died in Philadelphia.
