There's a Wideness in God's Mercy

Author: Frederick W. Faber, 1814-1863 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 916 hymnals Topics: Welcome Lyrics: 1 There's a wideness in God's mercy, like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in God's justice which is more than liberty. There is no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heav'n. There is no place where earth's failings have such kindly judgment giv'n. 2 There is welcome for the sinner, and a promised grace made good; there is mercy with the Savior; there is healing in his blood. There is grace enough for thousands of new worlds as great as this; there is room for fresh creations in that upper home of bliss. 3 For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind; and the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind. But we make this love too narrow by false limits of our own; and we magnify its strictness with a zeal God will not own. 4 'Tis not all we owe to Jesus; it is something more than all: greater good because of evil, larger mercy through the fall. Make our love, O God, more faithful; let us take you at your word, and our lives will be thanksgiving for the goodness of the Lord. Used With Tune: ST. HELENA

God Is Here

Author: Fred Pratt Green Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 48 hymnals Topics: Welcome First Line: God is here! As we your people Lyrics: 1 God is here! As we your people meet to offer praise and prayer, may we find in fuller measure what it is in Christ we share. Here, as in the world around us, all our varied skills and arts wait the coming of the Spirit into open minds and hearts. 2 Here are symbols to remind us of our lifelong need of grace; here are table, font, and pulpit; here the cross has central place. Here in honesty of preaching, here in silence, as in speech, here, in newness and renewal, God the Spirit comes to each. 3 Here our children find a welcome in the Shepherd's flock and fold; here as bread and wine are taken, Christ sustains us, as of old. Here the servants of the Servant seek in worship to explore what it means in daily living to believe and to adore. 4 God of all, of church and kingdom, in an age of change and doubt keep us faithful to the gospel; help us work your purpose out. Here, in this day's dedication, all we have to give, receive; we, who cannot live without you, we adore you! We believe! Used With Tune: BLAENWERN

I Come with Joy

Author: Brian Wren Meter: 8.6.8.6.6 Appears in 76 hymnals Topics: Welcome First Line: I come with joy, a child of God Lyrics: 1 I come with joy, a child of God, forgiven, loved, and free, the life of Jesus to recall, in love laid down for me, in love laid down for me. 2 I come with Christians far and near to find, as all are fed, the new community of love in Christ’s communion bread, in Christ’s communion bread. 3 As Christ breaks bread and bids us share, each proud division ends. The love that made us, makes us one, and strangers now are friends, and strangers now are friends. 4 The Spirit of the risen Christ, unseen, but ever near, is in such friendship better known, alive among us here, alive among us here. 5 Together met, together bound by all that God has done, we’ll go with joy, to give the world the love that makes us one, the love that makes us one. Scripture: Matthew 8:11 Used With Tune: DOVE OF PEACE
