Let not thy spirit waver.
Heed not the world’s allurements grand,
Nor pause for Sodom’s favor.
But plow thy furrow, sow God's seed
Though tares and thorns thy work impede;
For he who sows with weeping,
Shall soon with joy be reaping.
2 But should at times thy courage fail--
For even strength may falter--
Let not the tempting world prevail
On thee thy course to alter.
He that would win must forward go;
Retreat can bring thee naught but woe;
When foes bid thee defiance,
On God be thy reliance.
3 If to the course we faithful keep,
The race will soon be ended;
And death itself is but a sleep,
Its veil will soon be rended.
But those who conquer in the strife
Obtain the joy and crown of life
And shall in constant gladness
Forget these days of sadness.
4 Press onward then in Jesus' name,
Though thorns and rocks inclose thee;
Yea, forward though with sword and flame
The foe should here oppose thee.
Most precious is the victor's prize,
And open is God's paradise
Where God on Zion's mountain
Has opened wide life's fountain. Topics: Following Christ Used With Tune: [hast to the plough thou put thy hand]
