Lord, Forgive!

Holy Father, freely pardon, is our earnest plea

Author: Elisha A. Hoffman
Tune: [Holy Father, freely pardon]
Published in 2 hymnals

Audio files: MIDI

Representative Text

1 “Holy Father, freely pardon,”
Is our earnest plea today;
“Oh, forgive Thy sinful children,
Ere this hour shall pass away!”

Refrain:
O forgive, O forgive,
Grant us peace and forgiveness today;
O forgive, O forgive,
Ere this hour shall pass away.

2 Memories around us gather
Of the time we left Thy side,
Chasing visionary pleasure,
Wandering from Thee, our Guide. [Refrain]

3 Tho’ts of undone duties meet us,
Tho’ts of words we might have said,
Opportunities neglected,
Now, alas! forever fled. [Refrain]

4 So we kneel, Thy contrite children,
Kneel and earnestly entreat
That our sins may be forgiven;
As we press the mercy seat. [Refrain]
