Jesus, I my cross have taken

Author: Henry Francis Lyte, 1793 - 1847 Appears in 1,311 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow thee; Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shalt be. Perish every fond ambition, All I've sought, or hoped, or known; Yet how rich is my condition, God and heaven are still my own. 2 Man may trouble and distress me, 'Twill but drive me to thy breast; Life with trials hard may press me, Heav'n will bring me sweeter rest. O, 'tis not in grief to harm me, While thy love is left to me; O, 'twere not in joy to charm me, Were that joy unmixed with thee. 3 Take, my soul, thy full salvation; Rise o'er sin and fear and care; Joy to find, in every station, Something still to do or bear. Think what Spirit dwells within thee, What a Father's smile is thine, What a Saviour died to win thee; Child of heaven, shouldst thou repine? 4 Haste then on from grace to glory, Armed by faith, and winged by prayer; Heaven's eternal day's before thee, God's own hand shall guide thee there. Soon shall close thine earthly mission, Swift shall pass thy pilgrim days; Hope soon change to glad fruition, Faith to sight, and prayer to praise. Amen. Hark! the Sound of Holy Voices

Author: Christopher Wordsworth Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 236 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Hark! the sound of holy voices, Chanting at the crystal sea, Halleluia, halleluia, Halleluia, Lord, to Thee! Multitudes which none can number, Like the stars in glory stand, Clothed in white apparel, holding Palms of vict'ry in their hand. 2 They have come from tribulation, And have washed their robes in blood, Washed them in the blood of Jesus; Tried they were, and firm they stood; Mocked, imprisoned, stoned, tormented, Sawn asunder, slain with sword, They have conquered death and Satan By the might of Christ the Lord. 3 Now they reign in heavenly glory, Now they walk in golden light, Now they drink, as from a river, Holy bliss and infinite: Love and peace they taste forever, And all truth and knowledge see In the beatific vision Of the blessèd Trinity. Amen. Topics: Last Things Heaven Used With Tune: SERAPHIM
