James Proctor Harding, whose names is sometimes given as John, and whose birth date is uncertain, appearing as 1850, 1859, and 1861, was for 35 years the organist and choirmaster of St. Andrew's Church, Islington, London. He also worked for many years in the English civil service. His musical compositions include anthems, part-songs, etc., many of which were written for the children's festivals of the Gifford Hall Mission in Islington.
