What Shall Our Record Be?

Representative Text

1 There’s a hand that’s writing now
In the book of life, they say;
Ev’ry action, word or deed
Is recorded there each day.

Refrain:
What shall then our record be?
Let us stop and think, I pray!
What shall then our record be,
In the coming judgment day?
In the coming judgment day,
In the coming judgment day,
What shall then our record be,
In the coming judgment day?

Still that hand goes writing on,
Making pages dark or fair;
Let us ponder well, dear friends,
What for us is written there. [Refrain]

Time is ebbing fast away,
Life for us will soon be done;
Can we, trustingly, go hence,
That a crown of life is won. [Refrain]
