We ask for donations here just twice a year, and this is one of those times. So, before you hit the "close" button on this box, would you consider a donation to keep Hymnary.org going? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

Last month, our Hymnary website had almost 1 million visitors from around the world: people like you who love hymns. To serve our users well takes money, and we have limited sources of revenue. This fund drive is one such source.

You can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, or you can click the Donate button below. From the entire Hymnary.org team, our grateful thanks.

Representative Text

1 Ach Gott in Gnaden von uns wend
dies größe Kreuz und groß Elend,
damit wir sind ergeben gar,
und stehn all Augenblick in G'fahr.

2 Behüt uns, deine Kinderlein,
um Christi unsers Herren Pein,
vor Pestilenz und schnellem Tod,
und laß uns nicht in dieser Noth.

3 In dieser Noth ach laß uns nicht;
wend von uns deine'n Zorn und Gericht,
das dir lobsinge unser Mund
für deinen Schutz aus Herzensgrund.

Bartholomew Ringwaldt was born at Frankfort-on-the-Oder, in 1530, and was a Lutheran pastor at Langfield, in Prussia, where he died, 1598. His hymns resemble Luther's in their simplicity and power. In 1581, he published "Hymns for the Sundays and Festivals of the whole Year." --Annotations of the Hymnal, Charles Hutchins, M.A. 1872.… Go to person page >
