1 Awake! awake! ye saints of light,
Put on your shield and armor;
Defend the city of the Lord
From all who seek to harm her.
The foe is on the field,
He comes with sword and shield;
Go forth, the hosts infernal meet,
Go fight the blessed fight of faith.

2 Go forth, go forth, ye mighty host,
Against the pow’rs of darkness;
The sword of truth, the shield of faith,
Shall conquer all against us.
O’er every foe we’ll ride,
For God is on our side;
Remember Gideon’s little band;

3 Hold fast, hold fast, ye valiant ones,
The day will soon be breaking;
Lift now your royal standard high,
The foe with fear is quaking.
Soon to our gladdened sight,
On flaming steeds of white,
The sainted legions shall descend,
And end the glorious fight of faith.
