Representative Text

1 Despair not when dark, gloomy shadows
Athwart thy life’s pathway seem drawn;
Behind them God’s sunlight is gleaming
In brightness to cheer thee—hope on.

Refrain:
Hope on, hope on,
Despair not, but ever hope on,
Sunshine, brightness, will breath thro’ the clouds by and by.

2 Hope on, with full trust in God’s goodness;
Hope on, till life’s battle is won;
And tho’ friends disappoint and forsake thee,
One Friend is still faithful—hope on. [Refrain]

3 Hope on, tho’ life’s dark shadows lower!
Hope on, e’en tho’ hid seem life’s sun;
Its warm rays in effulgence are streaming
Behind ev’ry cloud—still hope on. [Refrain]

4 And thus hoping, thy life will grow brighter,
Till reflecting the light of life’s sun,
‘Twill illumine some pilgrim’s dark pathway,
Causing him to cheer and hope on. [Refrain]
