1 For me to live is Jesus,
For me to die is gain:
I yield to Him most gladly
And leave this world of pain.
2 In peace this life departing,
To yonder realms I soar,
That I with Christ, my Brother,
May dwell for evermore.
3 My toil and cares are ended,
My troubles all must cease,
For in Thy wounds, O Jesus,
My soul has found its peace.
4 Then let me close mine eyelids
And fall asleep in Thee;
Let Thy good will and counsel
Be thus fulfilled in me.
5 As to the oak the ivy,
So let me cleave to Thee,
And in those heavenly mansions
May I Thy glory see.
6 Amen! this do Thou grant me,
O gracious Savior mine!
Vouchsafe to me Thy Spirit,
Make me forever Thine.
