1 Forward sweeps the conquering Redeemer,
Flow'rs are blooming where his feet have trod;
Thro' the world the joyous tidings ringing,
Jesus lives! the blessed Son of God!
Chorus:
Forward! Forward! Seraphs lowly bending,
Cast their crowns of gold before his feet;
Forward sweeps the conquering Redeemer;
Hail him! hail him! Lord his praise repeat!
2 We may rise with him to heights celestial;
Death is swallowed up in victory;
Earth and heav'n exultingly are singing;
Crowned with light divine is Calvary. [Chorus]
3 Forward sweeps the conquering Redeemer,
Hallelujahs swelling thro' the sky;
Hail him! hail him! King of kings forever!
Glory be to God who reigns on high! [Chorus]
Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
