Johann Friedrich Christian Stohlmann was born in Jossen, near Petershagen (Germany) on April 16, 1780. He was schoolmaster at Eldagsen from 1794-1796. Later, in 1807 he became teacher and organist at Klienbremmen. In 1808 he married Auguste Marie Gruntzner. He was also a painter. In 1834 he and his family immigrated to the United States, settling near Erie, PA. His son, Carl F. Stohlmann became pastor of St. Peters Evangelical church in Erie. He died in 1863.
