During our last fund drive a donor said this: "Covid-19 rules prevent us from singing during my husband's burial service, so we will play the tune while we read the printed words or hum along with the music." Needless to say, this testimony struck us and stuck with us. We never know on any given day how Hymnary.org will be a blessing to people, but we know that around the world, the site is making a powerful difference in the lives of many.

Thanks to all who use Hymnary.org and all who support it with gifts of time, talent and treasure. If you feel moved to support our work today with a gift of any amount and a word of encouragement, we would be grateful.

What though my joys and comfort die?
The Lord my savior liveth.
What though the darkness gather round?
Songs in the night he giveth.

Herr Gott, erhalt' uns für und für

Herr Gott, erhalt' uns für und für

Representative Text

1 Herr Gott! erhalt uns für und für
die reine Katechismuslehr,
der jungen einfältigen Welt
durch deinen Luther fürgestellt.

2 Daß wir lernen die zehn Gebot,
beweinen unsre Sünd und Noth,
und doch an dich und deinen Sohn
glauben, im Geist erleuchtet schon.

3 Dich, unsern Vater rufen an,
der allen helfen will und kann,
daß wir als Kinder nach der Tauf
christlich vollbringen unsern Lauf.

4 So jemand fällt, nicht liegen bleib,
sondern zur Beichte komm' und gläub,
zur Stärkung nehm das Sacrament.
Amen, Gott geb ein selig End.
