Lo! from the upper skies

Lo! from the upper skies

Representative Text

1 Lo! from the upper skies
Angelic hosts appear;
Hark! how their songs arise,
In accents sweet and clear,--
The Christ of God is born to-day,
The Christ that takes our sins away.

2 The chorus swells on high,
In melody divine;
And lo! the Heralds nigh,
In dazzling glory shine,
As they proclaim the Saviour's birth,--
"Good-will to men, and peace on earth."

3 The darkness falls away;
All types and shadows flee;
Messiah comes to-day,
The Christ of prophecy.
Mortals, be glad; your praises bring;
All hearts, all lands, exultant sing.

4 Enter our hearts to-day,
Thou Mystery Divine;
Make strong and sure Thy sway,
That we be wholly Thine.
We give ourselves,--our all to Thee,
For time and for eternity.
