He took HoÂly OrÂders in 1866, and served as ViÂcar of WinÂcoÂbank (1876-1905) and ViÂcar of TopÂcliff, YorkÂshire (1905-). HowÂevÂer, he is best known as a hymnÂolÂoÂgist.
