O beautiful rainbow

O beautiful rainbow

Tune: [O beautiful rainbow]
Published in 2 hymnals

Representative Text

1 Oh beautiful rainbow,
All woven with light,
There's not in thy tissue
One shadow of night;
The skies seem to open
When thou dost appear,
As if a bright vision
Of angels drew near.

2 I love the old story,
Which thou still dost mark,
How o'er the lone mountain
Where rested the ark,
Men saved from the waters,
With wondering eye,
Beheld the first rainbow
Appear in the sky,

3 And thousands of ages
Have flourished and fled,
Since, on the first rainbow,
The promise was read;
Man dies and earth changes,
But still doth endure,
God's signet of mercy,
Fresh, lovely and pure.
