Representative Text

1 O happy bells of Easter-tide,
Proclaim the news afar and wide,
That Christ, the lamb for sinners slain,
Has conquer’d death and lives again!
The man of sorrows, and alone,
Now sits upon the victor’s throne,
While seraph hosts exulting sing,
“Hail, hail to Thee, thou Risen King.”

Refrain:
O happy bells of Eastertide,
Proclaim the news afar and wide,
That Christ, the lamb for sinners slain,
Has conquer’d death and lives again!

2 O happy bells of Easter-time,
Ring loud and clear a joyous chime;
Repeat the word by angels brought.
To those who for Him weeping sought,
“Why seek the living ‘mong the dead?
Christ has arisen, as He said;”
Rejoice, ye sad, exulting sing,
“Hail, hail to Thee, thou Risen King.” [Refrain]

3 O happy bells of Easter-day,
Ring sweet and true a gladsome lay
Till all the earth shall catch the strain,
And heav’ns high arches ring again;
The grave has yielded up its prey!
Our Jesus lives and reigns today!
Let earth and heav’n exulting sing,
“Hail, hail to Thee, thou Risen King.” [Refrain]
