O Root of Jesse, who stands as an emblem of the people, at whom kings shall shut their mouths, unto whom the Gentiles shall pray. Come, and deliver us, and tarry not.
Hope, Alexander James Beresford, LL.D., born Jan. 25, 1820, educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, was M.P. for his University for several years, and died Oct. 20, 1887. He is connected with hymnology through his Hymns of the Church, literally translated, for the use of English Congregations, Lond., J. & F. Rivington. 1844. None of these translations have come into common use. In the Cambridge University Calendar he is entered as “Alexander James Beresford Beresford-Hope."
