Canfield, Rev. Henry Lovell. (Austerlitz, New York, May 20, 1828--February 19, 1926, Pasadena, California). He was ordained to the Universalist ministry at Brimfield, Ohio, in 1859, and served several Universalist churches in Ohio until his removal in 1902 to Pasadena, where he assisted in gathering a Universalist church in nearby Los Angeles. He promoted the founding of Buchtel College in Akron, Ohio, by the Ohio Universalist Convention in 1870, and in 1888, Buchtel College (now part of the University of Akron) gave him the degree of Doctor of Divinity. Church Harmonies: New and Old, 1895, includes his hymn "O strengthen me, my Father, with thy might." --Henry Wilder Foote, DNAH Archives  Go to person page >
