Hymnary Friends,

Please pardon this brief interruption, and please consider a gift today to support the work of Hymnary.org. Here's why.

Each month half a million people visit this website for free access to the most complete database of North American hymnody on the planet. But this project does not come without a cost, and we have limited sources of revenue. Twice a year we hold a fund drive, and these drives are critical to our future.

So if you benefit from Hymnary.org, would you consider a donation today? Even small amounts help, and they also let us know you're behind us and support what we do.

Click the Donate button below to be taken to a secure giving site. Or you can make your tax-deductible contribution by sending a check to Hymnary.org at 3201 Burton SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

On behalf of the entire Hymnary.org team, our thanks.
Harry Plantinga

Representative Text

1 Op, Zion's Vægt're, sover ei!
Kundgjører Folket Herrens Vei!
For Josef Skade, Saar og Sag,
I bære Omhu Nat og Dag;
Lad intet hindre eder fra,
At grunde hjertelig derpaa!

2 Det Regnskab, det, som engang skal
Aflægges for saa stort et Tal
Af dyre Sjæle, maa jo vel
Bekymre eders egen Sjæl;
Har Jesus kjøbt dem med sit Blod,
Da lignes intet derimod.

3 Ak vaager, beder, strider, staar
Mod Løven, som saa listig gaar,
Og søger, hvem han finde kan.
Der slipper Guds trofaste Haand;
Faar han først Hyrden i sin Magt,
Er mange Lam og ødelagt.

4 Ak, Jesus, giv os Hyrder, som
Ret sørge for din Helligdom,
Beskjærm du dem mod Verdens Vold,
Og Satans List saa mangefold,
Lad dem med dig i Samfund staa,
Og evig Hvile hos dig faa!

In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries. Go to person page >
