Carlson was ed­u­cat­ed at the Free Church Bi­ble School, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois, and North­west Bi­ble Coll­ege, Storm Lake, Io­wa. He served as a pas­tor in the Evan­gel­ic­al Free Church, and ed­it­ed the Chi­ca­go­blad­et.
