Henry Leo Boles was born near Gainesboro, Tennessee in 1874. He graduated from Burritt College (Spencer, Tennessee) in 1900, Nashville Bible College in 1906, and received an M.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1920. In the fall of 1906 he became a faculty member at David Lipscomb College (then Nashville Bible College) teaching philosophy and mathematics. In 1913 he became president of the college and taught Bible. For 40 years he was also a contributor and editor for the Gospel Advocate and wrote several books.
