Ohmer U. Herr was born in Randolph Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. He attended Miami University and taught eighth grade and normal training. He later became a nursery farmer near Englewood, Ohio. He was also an ordained minister in the Brethren in Christ Church and served on a number of boards.
