The Well of Grace Still Flows

Representative Text

1 The well of grace still flows,
That all men may be sharing.
My soul, entreat thy God,
That He may be forbearing.
The word, light for thy feet,
Is teaching thee within
That only Christ alone
Can set thee free from sin.

2 Thy actions are not meet
To mold a life of merit.
Look now to Christ the Lord
A good life to inherit.
He pacified with wrath
With His so precious blood,
And cleared the way to Him,
The truly living God.

3 To free thyself from sin
Is not of thy vocation.
Thy faith must strongly rest
On God's cooperation.
Oft reason goes astray,
By Satan is debased;
If God is not with thee,
Thou los'st God's loving grace.

4 O Lord, Thy mercy show,
Seek not my soul to chasten.
I thirst, a hunted deer,
To springs of grace I hasten.
How can I flee distress
But by Thy gift of grace.
Help with Thy spirit, Lord,
Weak is the human race.

5 The righteous ones that thirst
Thou promised to deliver
From all their sin and woe,
Thou'd save the true believer.
Thy Son, the loving Christ,
Is marking our course.
But Thou alone canst help,
For Thou art all help's source.

6 O Blessed One, I ask
That this drink Thou be giving
To make my life for Thee
A model of true living.
This water ever give,
Of grace Thou art the spring,
And I shall be refreshed.
My soul it peace can bring.
