The Anchor That Will Hold

Representative Text

1 There is only one anchor that holds secure
On the swelling tides of life,
To no other can you trust for protection sure
‘Mid the wild tempestuous strife.

Refrain:
There is only one anchor that will hold,
There is only one anchor that will hold,
On life’s’ deep and stormy sea
Faith in Christ of Calvary
Is the only anchor that will hold.

2 All the strongest of earth’s moorings like ropes of sand
In the time of need give way,
But abiding faith in Christ can alone withstand
Each assailing pow’r for aye. [Refrain]

3 ‘Mid the crushing weight of sorrows and anxious fears
Which the passing days oft fill,
Weary spirits find in Jesus sweet hope and cheer
And alarms and doubts grow still. [Refrain]

4 Brother mariner, sailing o’er life’s wide main
Seek to gain the heav’nly shore,
On the rocking billows cling to no hope that’s vain,
Trust in Jesus evermore. [Refrain]
